Saga ELECTRICITY ASSEMBLY LAIBUKIA ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA MAINLAND MP SEEKS TO PAY DEBT


Member of the House of Representatives (BLW), Jaku Hashim Ayoub called for tax collections and various charges brought to Zanzibar government to pay a debt of electricity.



Jaku said that when he asked a supplementary question in Parliament yesterday, where he said there is a tax payable mainland, but do not go to Zanzibar for supporting development, including paying the debt.

MP who claimed to be a witness of his word and that he is willing to give, said the funds were sent is necessary to enable repayment of the debt arrears of electricity.

March 9, this year, Tanzania Electric Company (TANESCO) announced I applied electric Zanzibar due to accumulated debt of more than Sh275.38 billion.

Acting Managing Director of TANESCO, Dr. Tito Rise said to have given 14 days to ensure that it pays the debt. However, a few days later announced TANESCO paid Sh10 billion as advance payment to electricity isikate Isles.

Initially, in a fundamental question, MP magomeni (CCM), Jamal Kassim Ali wanted to know if the government does not see the need to tax salaries (swears) for employees of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (SMZ) isikusanywe Isles for pushing development.

Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Ashantu judge said according to the Revenue Act chapter 66, section 4 (a) and (b), the tax of the company is of the Union and is collected by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).

Also, he said even the company that registered the mainland but they are Zanzibar, its taxes are collected mainland.

The deputy minister said if the company will be registered in Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania and branches will be required to pay his rent Zanzibar.
