TAWLA: 400,000 women have abortions in secret every mwaka

Mwanza and Dar es salaam mentioned faced with the challenge of universal access to reproductive health and deaths due to unsafe abortions, resulting in more women than 400,000 forced abortions in secrecy every year while 40 percent of them, they end up getting complications major health.




Presenting the evaluation of the implementation of the resolutions and the work plan of the activities of the association of women lawyers Tanzania (TAWLA) for 2016 on the importance of reproductive health, the CEO of the agency shade mwanza Yassin Ally said 60 percent of women in the country who have problems abortion do not get quite the medical care they need.

Marina Mashimba is an independent lawyer in Mwanza, says in order to reduce or completely eliminate maternal mortality and girls maternal and unsafe abortions, TAWLA based on the fight for women's rights and gender equality in the country including the right to reproductive health in the development of economic and social as well as removing misconceptions about reproductive health.

In 2007 Tanzania adopted a supplementary agreement to the rights of women in Africa (Maputo Protocol) in 2003, whereas in Article 14 (2) (c), declares that member states shall take effective measures to protect the reproductive rights of women by permitting abortions where abortion has been found for sexual violence rape, sexual intercourse or blood-relatives as continued growth in the pregnancy endangers the mother's condition and mental health and the unborn child.
